Peaks restaurant atop tramway?

Postby salsaking » Tue Aug 07, 2007 10:17 am

I was wondering if anyone could give me info on the Peaks restaurant at the top of the tram way. How are the prices, service, etc. I'm planning on taking my girlfriend backpacking over the weekend and would like to surprise her with a nice little dinner on saturday night. Thanks......

I just have a Pepsi and potato chips at the bar after my runs. The Pepsi is well-carbonated.

The restaurant changed to a completely different business last year. I haven't eaten at the new place (besides Pepsi and chips), so I don't have an opinion. They still have the fine dining on the east end of the building.

The "expensive" one was actually pretty reasonable (like 22-35 dollar dinners) for the view and the food. It was the "inexpensive" one that bugged me and seemed overpriced. Salads were $9, the buffet line was ridiculously expensive, etc. My girlfriend had the exact same reaction (this was 2 weeks ago).

All I have ever heard about food at the Tram is it's awful and most times walking through I notice half eaten entres, but I don't think thats food from the "nice" restaraunt probobly just the cafeteria. Still, I can't say I've ever heard much of anything positive about the food at the tram.

I thought the name of the restaurant was "Elevations," at least that's what I remember when I dined there several years ago. I ordered a plate--I don't recall its name--that included a base ball-cut filet mignon topped with carmelized asparagus spears. My friend had, I think, the stuffed manicotti with saffron lobster nage or tarragon foam. I found the food both well-presented and delicious. In fact, the steak was better than those I've had at LG's and Ruth's Chris, both of which serve very good steaks. The chef at "Elevations" had just been recruited from the Hilton in Beverly Hills, according to our waitress, who brought him to our table so that we--my freind and I--could compliment him personally on the wonderful meal he created. Very nice guy.

I've also eaten at the tram's buffet-sytle "restaurant." The food is decent--neither bad nor great--although sometimes, especially when hungry after a long slog up Skyline in the snow, it can taste quite good!

Yichus is correct about there being fine dining up there. Here's the press release.

Dine at one of the two restaurants – it is a one of a kind experience. Elevations Restaurant offers fine dining, while the Top of the Tram Restaurant offers an affordable cafeteria-style alternative.

I'd be careful with the tram maintenance shutdown coming in early Sept though and I've also not checked out the dining since the new concession company has taken over.

Like most things in life...you sort of get what you pay for give its relative cost to provide it.

The bar has something named after Skyline. I think it's the Skyline Diablo Chicken Wings or something like that.
