Skyline Trail

Postby tempusfugit12345 » Mon Jan 30, 2012 1:03 pm

Hello All,

Firstly I'm a new poster here and a novice by all comparisons from what I have read on this board :D

I was in Palm Springs a over the weekend and on a whim I walked/hiked up Skyline Trail to the picnic tables (great work out...it beat the hotel's gym 1000 times over!). I didn't go further since I really hadn't prepared for a long hike (I heeded the multiple warnings from locals and this Board). But I am very curious about elevation change and distance along this trail in the event that I return someday. I don't really intend on going to the summit, but to go further than the 25 minutes it took me to get to the picnic tables would be nice. So I was hoping that someone here would know of a good online source for this information (something like trail maps, landmarks, etc.).

In advance, thanks for your help!

Hey Marc, in the near future I'm planning to re-upload the Cactus to Clouds Hiking Guide with an updated version because things have changed. Here are a couple maps created in 2004:

They really put the picnic tables in perspective.

Map with upload GPS track from Nov. 2011. There were a lot of different paths to follow down at the lower part of the route and it was hard to tell which was the most beaten path in the dark; so my track might not be the same as the next person's track.

My track doesn't look much different than the track on the old map. Maybe a couple of less zigs and zags in the beginning, but that's hard to tell on the map.

Perry and Kathy,

Thank you so much for the detailed information. I'm going to be in the area again next month and looking forward to exploring further.

Regards,
Marc
