Tram to San Jacinto Peak

Hi All Hikers,

First of all Thank You for this web site and all your reports.

I went up with a group of adults and Boy Scouts this past Saturday, peaked on Sunday in very cold weather and hiked out today.(Monday) The trail was very icy in spots after the stream crossing, we all had crampons that we used for the last three days. For us everything worked out well, always concerned about the Scouts. The weather was very cold, windy and snowing. Maybe a fresh half inch to two inches on the ground last night to today. No snow shoes were needed.(Maybe next time we go, hopefully) Pray for snow, especially up north.
See ya on the trail,
Don

Hi, bluefintu,

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you had a neat trip with the Scouts. What age group were they? Did they complain much about the cold? I can't wait to take my grandsons up there in the snow, but I'm afraid they would be whiners in those kinds of conditions. I've taken them up in the summer and I had to make a rule: no whining!

Looks like more snow is on the way, keep on praying!

Hi Sally,

All our Scouts had a great time, no whining. The youngest maybe 12-13 to 16 year old. One Scout wore blue jeans, he's lucky everything up there was frozen, so he stayed dry. My son did loan him some rain pants to use but my son also forgot his jacket in the truck. Our Scout master loaned him his extra jacket so he wouldn't freeze. Other than that our trip went well with only one injury to an ex-scoutmaster, he tripped with his crampons and ended up with a third knee, big bruise. There was no need for ice since it was already cold enough to keep the swelling down.
