Headed up Skyline on Sat with Cindy, Ed, the Craigmeister and Weston. This was Ed and Weston's first time. Although the air temperature was not hot, there was ample sunshine and no breeze, so it felt warm.
At about 2 K, two hikers that we let pass us told us to be quiet so that they could have a peaceful hike
Ran into many familiar faces at Flatrock -- Patrick S, Doug, Diana, Kathryn, Perry A, and Udi. We donned microspikes at the beginning of the traverse. Even with the spikes, I occasionally slipped a bit heading up the switchbacks from Coffman's Crag. Had a celebratory beverage at the tram before shuttling everyone back to to their cars at the museum. Thanks to the Craigmeister and Cindy for helping me set up the shuttle.
On Sun, Sally and I set up the shuttle before meeting Krai, Jeanine, Florian, and Derrick at the museum. Completely different weather compared to Saturday. It was windy and dry -- great weather for polar bears. Simon and David disappeared up the trail ahead of us and Sally and I said farewell to Krai's faster group at the picnic tables. We caught up with them when they took a break at Flatrock. Thanks to the wind, Sally and I were cold enough to don long sleeves over our t-shirts and didn't get too hot on the climb out of Flatrock.
The wind was howling at the traverse when we put on our microspikes and the trail was even icier than on Sat. Spoke with Tram Tim, who confirmed that conditions were extremely icy in Long Valley and higher up on the mountain. Diana caught us as we scrambled up the rocks -- this was her second day in a row as well.
Today I'm enjoying being a couch potato and figuring out which desert hike I want to do next.
Miles of smiles,
Ellen
