That's a good long ride. I like riding on Dillon Road.

I ride a similar route on Sundays that I don't Skyline, only after taking Washington up and turning right and riding past the preserve and taking the left on Dillon, I wussy out and take Varner back to Washington. I almost got hit by some asshole out there two weeks ago right before the left turn onto Dillon Rd. I heard him coming up behind me, then tires squeal as his brakes lock up, and as he's passing me, I can tell he had swerved to avoid me. My closest call so far and I haven't ridden that route since. Scared me too much.

The scariest part of that loop for me is Varner between Date Palm and Mtn View near the dump road. Garbage trucks and all those crazy DHS people. Varner east from Date Palm is nice. Downhill and always a tailwind!

Scary Stuff

Postby HikerBlatt » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:47 pm

Road cycling is the most dangerous thing I do. Some rides I die a thousand deaths, thinking the last sound I will ever hear is the car coming up fast behind me, but when I am not dieing I am flying and that more than makes up for the fear factor.

Exactly, same here. Hiking is very safe in comparison.

I like the idea of having drunk drivers commute by bicycle for a while.
