Howdy All :)

On the subject on Skyline and pace -- I've been guilty of posting times  I hope my San Jacinto family views this as sharing rather than showing off. My days as a competitive endurance athlete are long behind me (think of dinosaurs roaming the earth), but I do enjoy trying to better my time on occaision. I'm also really proud of and excited for my friends when they reach a specific time goal 8)

Most of my Skyline hikes are about spending time with friends and reveling in the fabulous views as we ascend. I am definately a Skyline addict -- I love the transition from desert to alpine. Not having to go downhill is also a big plus on my fused spine and bum ankle. In fact, Skyline was my first hike after the 2008 "event" because it was all uphill.

I love this board because we encourage and support each other and accept differences of opinion.

You are my mountain family and on this Thanksgiving Day, I count you among my blessings and wish everyone well 8)

Happy Thanksgiving,
Ellen

it's all part of the fun, keeping track and sharing our times....we know who we are and we are a family..and lord knows, we have smelled every frickin rose and bush on that trail a million times, so what else is there to do but get to it and get up the hill. we all love it just the same.

I love that you only have a couple of masters degrees and you still misspell words though !!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody, it was a wonderful day on the trail this morning..

...and that guy " FERN".......it honestly took him 12 1/2 hours today to go 3 miles yesterday....he isn't that fast.

...matter of fact, we both suck.

That's because he talks like he walks - faster than I can focus.

and they were even posting times back in 1965:

Not that 2 hours and 25 minutes to travel from Gold Valley to Smith Mountain is fast, but it's pretty good that they were able to get a group 13 people up there in that amount of time.

Skyline

Hello all!! (I learned this from Ellen)

After reading this rather long thread, I have come to the following conclusion. Since we have officially now decided that posting times is not bragging, but rather sharing our successes, I would like to share mine as well. On my second skyline I dropped my initial, rather apprehensive time of 7:49, to 6:20. The beautiful weather helped. A bit icy on the traverse but tolerable with poles.

However, I believe rather magical things must happen on this trail and making a new friend, as I did today, certainly is more important than the time, though it is the making of the new friend that made the time possible. (He is way faster and let me try to keep up!!)

In any case, on to a less important but to the general hiking public a more interesting subject.

It has come to my attention that the very creator of this thread, was recently seen break dancing after a recent skyline record setting event. Yes, our very own Patrick Supra!! And to think people thought he was bragging about his hiking skills. I think not. These skills are dwarfed in comparison to his skills on the dance floor, as one can plainly see from this photo. Hope to see you all out there soon!!

Funny Carl!
So from the break dancing photo, I guess it's official; PatrickSupra really IS "The Dude" in the movie The Big Lebowski.
