Saturday Skyline

Howdy All :)

My friend Tim had been skunked twice on Skyline and wanted to test out his microspikes and poles on the traverse, so I tagged along.

Started out with Kathryn, Indie Jack and Hengst Joe. Before long, we were passed by Speedy Steve, InFerno and Patti.

The temperature wasn't warm but (like Wed and Fri) humid with no wind. We met many other nice folks, including the Skyline Queen Doreen, along the way. Tim was content to slow-twitch up with the tired blonde the hill. This was my third Skyline in four days and, unlike the greyhounds, I slow down on consecutive trips

We stopped for lunch at Saint Florian's cache before grinding up through the manzanita after Flatrock. It's always a relief to reach the Thank you Jesus rocks. We donned microspikes and continued up. Tim was impressed with the more secure footing -- I may get him into snow hiking yet  Passed several people from Coffman's on up who were having issues with the ice. Fortunately, every one made to Coffman's safely.

Scrambled up the rocks and enjoyed a celebratory beverage and chatting with Patrick and other Skyliners at the tram bar before refueling at Las C and heading home.

Today, I'm enjoying being a couch (err...computer) potato

I'm hoping the forecast for snow is valid so I can dust off the snowshoes for tramshoeing. Come on SNOW!!!

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Hi Ellen, nice seeing you on Skyline on Saturday (I was one of the two old guys that commented about the Leatherneck Ridge post as we walked by - about 20 mins before flatrock).

Your post on Friday was great too - we brought our traction gear and it really helped on the traverse! Definitely very icy.

I see it is snowing right now!

Thank you Ellen for the great hike Saturday, I had a blast. The micro-spikes are incredible. I am even happier about my decision to turn around at 6500' that Sunday two weeks ago before I had them. I am sure I could have made it but I think it would have taken me a very long time from the beginning of the traverse to Grubbs Notch, and I would have frozen! Thank you Patrick, Ellen and I really enjoyed meeting you and your friends. You are an amazing athlete and your friend are awesome. Thank you for the ride to the museum, but sorry you didn't go to Las Casuelas with us, food was exceptional that day.
