Questions on todays hike.....

Postby THETRACK » Sat Nov 12, 2011 9:44 pm

Good evening to all.....I am a long time Forum reader but have not posted in awhile. We have been doing "Cactus-to......at least twice a year for the past 10 years. This morning, my bud and I left Santa Monica and hit Ramone Dr around 615am.....It was the coldest and wettest day that I have experienced on the this trial. We came close to "Flat Rock" and the conditions were deteriorating as we looked up. Looked like cloud cover was down to 6,000 or so. My bud decided we should turn around and head back down. First time I ever walked back down to Ramone. So, two questions of interest:

Did anyone summit today and can report how the conditions were from....7,000 to finish??..did it snow today?? and, as we we were turning around, we had a helicopter buzz right over...looks like they were heading to "Flat-Rock"...wondering if anyone heard any news???

Thanks again............THETRACK

I heard that at least 4 people did the Skyline today and that the Palm Springs Mounted Police Search & Rescue group were in the area doing some helicopter training. The weather report was for snow down to 7,000 ft. but I don't know if that turned out to be the case.
Happy Trails!

I was hiking over on the Cactus Springs trail today and it rained pretty much all day...If anyone is interested...but it was cool and beautiful out there......I could see some leftover snow high up on the ridge to the right of the trail on the way in.....

Yep several groups went up, one group of 3 and two groups of 4 that I know of, and like Cam said, the helo was a training.

I know everybody was in the rain a little, but when I caught up to my group, everyone was smilling. beautiful day to be on the trail.

yes, the loud girl went up to the tram. I think we saw you, i was the one that circled around the pile of rocks.
it was wet the whole way, actually annoying. this is the first time i can honestly say going back down would not had been any better. i was hoping to get snow at tree line but no go, just more annoying mist.
i was just happy to be out so i can't complain.

Yes, I sure do remember you..I wish I had done the same dance!!!!.....My bud psyched himself out and I knew he wanted to turn back. I would have kept going, it was the first time I hiked down for 5 or 6 miles and i am walking like "Fester' right now.....those quads on the downhill. I figured it would be miserable, as you know it was wet and misty almost the entire way. Thanks for the response, its always a pleaure to read you Posts. I actually hiked a bit with you a few years ago...until you had enough and put it into gear.Take care and hope to hear from you soon.
