Skyline 49 degrees for starting weather this Saturday?

General Palm Springs area.

bluerail: I was thinking of doing Skyline, then meeting Ivette and our friends at the tram and going on to the peak. Since they're new at this, Ivette said it would probably come across badly if I did that. I had feared as much myself. So, I might do Skyline on Sunday, or I might hold off a couple of weeks. We'll be going up on the first tram, but we'll be going at their pace, so I don't know if that's a couple hours to the summit, three hours, four hours? NR is a rough route, but it should be fun after this first light dusting of snow. Probably won't see you, so take pics!

Ze: Fern's at 3:07, so I would really love 3:06:59! However, I'm thinking I might muster 3:15 to 3:20. A secondary goal would be to break 2 hours into Flatrock. Even if I ran out of gas at that point, a sub 2 Flatrock would be sweetness. You doing NR with Steve?

KathyW wrote:I'm likely just doing Skyline, but maybe I'll push on past Long Valley if there isn't too much snow and my gimpy hip and ankle don't hurt too much. I'm going up with a small group (8 right now, but usually people drop off at the last minute) - We'll be taking our time getting up the hill. Some in the group are just planning on doing Skyline and some would like to go all the way to the summit. There are actually 3 groups totaling 22 people from our meetup group planning to do either Skyline or C2C on Saturday, but that number will likely shrink a bit due to the weather forecast and other issues that come up.

Kathy: So your gimpy angle is all better?

Skyline 49 degrees for starting weather the Saturday

Postby Cy Kaicener » Thu Nov 03, 2011 2:53 pm

Every day they keep increasing the chance of snow at the Mountain Station.
Polar Bears will love it and will have to move fast to keep warm. More snow on Sunday. Saturday looks good. Rain and snow tomorrow (Friday)

Skyline looks okay, but the peak will have winter conditions

Friday Night

A 50 percent chance of snow showers before 11pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 31. West wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Saturday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. North wind around 10 mph.

Saturday Night

Partly cloudy, with a low around 33.

It looks like the snow will be soft. Do you think any traction devices are in order for Saturday? I'd rather carry Katoola microspikes than full crampons, as I imagine the snow will be fluffy and will yield to dirt at the bottom of each step.

The NWS forecast randomly jumps around; 4-6" last night, 1-5" this morning, now 4-7".
Du sublime au ridicule, il n'y a qu'un pas.
