two years ago I ran into one at about 2100', stared me down from about 20 ' and finally walked off. I had goose bumps for the next hour.

Well, they seem to be out there, and I am surprised that it was two different cats. Kinda relieved, really. I don't mind if they notice me - their senses are better, and they'll know I'm there long before I have the slightest inkling that they're there. If they're just looking for deer and the occasional bunny snack, but don't really want to eat us humans, I'm actually happy to see them.

When I see mountain goats, deer, or even bears, I don't think that I almost died - I find it kinda fascinating. So far, I have the same impression of mountain lions. As long as none of them show up with my liver on their breath, we're good.

Sounds like those cats are locals and have been surviving for quite a while without eating us. I'll bring a can of 9-lives the next couple of times that I do Skyline, but for now, groups of 2 or more should be safe, and us fools out there alone are taking a very small chance. But I admit I do feel the hair stand up on the back of my neck when I hear a noise in the darkness just a little way off trail...

Two guys are hiking on a local trail when they encounter a mountain lion. The mountain lion crouches down and stares. Fearing they will certainly be attacked one guy takes his backpack off, grabs his running shoes and frantically starts taking off his hiking boots. The other guys says, "What are you doing, you cant outrun a mountain lion!". The guy putting on his running shoes says, "Hell, I only have to outrun you".
