Howdy All

Highly recommend this hike. Lance and I went up by Dollar Lake and down by non-Dry Lake yesterday. Gorgeous fall colors and a nip in the air are announcing fall in the San Gorgonios. We enjoyed the antics of the field squirrels at the summit.

Those summit squirrels are legendary. Here's an excerpt from one of my favorite novels where they're mentioned:

Kilimanjaro is a snow-covered mountain 19,710 feet high, and is said to be the highest mountain in Africa. Its western summit is called the Masai 'Ngaje Ngai', the House of God. Close to the western summit there is a dried and frozen carcas of a San Gorgonio summit squirrel. No one has explained what the squirrel was seeking at that altitude.

I'll explain what he was looking for! He was looking for suckers like us who feed squirrels on the summits of our favorite mountains!

Wow, great Hemingway reference for the "Snows of Kilimanjaro." Gotta love a liberal arts education :lol:

Was it the carcass of a cheetah? I watched the movie with Gregory Peck before climbing Kili -- awesome!
