A San Gorgonio Marathon (almost) with Sally

Howdy All :)

Yesterday Sally and I hiked up Vivian to San Gorgonio peak, then headed down the ridge to San Bernardino peak and out Angelus Oaks. We did a car stagger before starting. The hike took about 12 hours. We covered 25.25 miles and gained ~6500 ft. No wonder the 9 peaks hike takes me over 14 hours. The cheeseburgers at the Oaks were heavenly.

It was humid with little to no breeze. Occaisionally we had cloud cover, which helped, although every time we headed uphill the sun came out and baked us

The chipmunks on the summit were very entertaining. They would stand up on the their hind legs looking over at San Jacinto. Hmm...an omen...guess I better come visit my mountain sister.

Howdy All :)

Left out the most exciting part...

We had reached the forest at about 8.4 K before the final descent down the ridge. I walked by some brush and Sally yelled, "Keep moving!!! You just walked by a rattlesnake!" She noted the Pacific Diamondback was very long and took a while to slither into the bushes to our left.

I'm really glad that it felt me trampling the ground and decided to move out of the way versus rattling and scaring the carp out of me :o

I think I saw the tail of another Diamondback disappear into the brush as we dropped into Manzanita flats.

Watch out folks, the buzz tails are out there.

Foil pack carp

Ellen,

Where are you finding that individual serving packet carp? I have been looking for some myself.

Go ahead and make me feel like a weenie. I went and hit 13 miles on the PCT with 5k of ascending in four and half hours and I come home to your post telling of a 25 miler.

Hi Everyone,
I was too concerned about anoying the rattlesnake to think to take his picture, however I did get lots of shots of the cute chipmunks.
