Now I can stop wondering about those crazy spot tracks up on the pass!

I think it is realistic that Ellen will arrive at Whitney Portal on Wednesday, but, knowing Ellen, I wouldn't be surprised if she made it on Tuesday. It would probably be late, and I don't know if they would still be serving hamburgers and beer when she gets there. Yeah, I think it will be Wednesday.
Missing the burger and the beer is a fate nearly worse than death. Go for Wednesday, Ellen!

Cy, I think Perry has turned off the option to embed videos here on the SJ forum.

Here's a direct link for those who are interested.

P.S. Nice avatar photo, Cy. :)

It's noon on Tuesday and she's just a short distance from Guitar Lake. Since Whitney stands between her and the portal, Wednesday would sound like the better option. Who wants to come down in the dark (risky on those stone steps) only to find the portal store closed? Much better to arrive at a civilized hour. Too bad she didn't finish it on a Saturday or Sunday - a few of us could have gone up and done some fishing, hiking, and celebrated together as she emerged from the wilderness.

Maybe she'd like to do it again the first couple of weeks in September! That's when I usually mount my impromptu Whitney trip. I'll drive up to meet you if you wanna do the trail again...

Whatcha say Ellen?

Ask her the day after her hike if she wants to do it again, and she'll give you a funny look.

Ask her in September, though, and she'll get a gleam in her eye.

...or maybe a funny gesture!

I noticed she blew by Guitar Lake. I wonder if it's tempting to go for the Portal. Sometimes at the end of a trip, I'm waxing nostalgic and drag my feet a little on the way out...sometimes I'm just want to get back to my soft, warm bed and a nice hot shower. She'll let us know soon.

Maybe she's got "health food" stashed at the portal (a la our last outing to Aspen Grove) and doesn't care about the Portal Store. I kind of like the vibe at the Portal Store, but who knows. Maybe she needs to work some demonic cougar scratches out of her legs.

Ellen has been very consistent and is right on schedule to finish up tomorrow with what may be her highest-mileage day (by a bit). The answer to "are we almost there" on the JMT is almost always "no," But she is close to changing that. 8)
