You can keep your copy of the permit if you would like, just inform the station that your back safe and give them your name so we can check you out. We match up all carbon copy's to know who has checked in and who mite still be out, it has helped with many different sar scenarios.

I'm pretty sure they don't send out a search party for every permit that isn't returned. Is there a reason i should return my used permit after a hike? What if i go out via a different trailhead?
