The zippetydude get-together is probably still going on as I write this on Sunday morning. When I showed up at Site 12 at the South Fork Campground yesterday at around 6 AM, the overnighters were just starting to wake up. In addition to zippetydude, there were Hiking Jim and little Joyce, bluerail, Patty, and Florian. Florian had to leave and Patty was taking care of a bad ankle, so zippetydude, bluerail, and I piled into the Jim and Joyce-mobile for the trip to the Aspen Grove trailhead. Jim evidently loves taking an overloaded Honda Accord onto a sometimes-bad dirt road. We got to the trailhead almost an hour late, so it took a while to run down Ellen and Fern, who started closer to the appointed hour of 7 AM. Jim and Joyce did a more modest route, which was understandable given that Jim was doing all of the walking. The rest of the crew ended up on Lake Peak, above Mineshaft Saddle, before turning around. It was a nice outing on a particularly beautiful day. The festivities continued back at the camp site. It looked as if things would be going for quite a while when I departed at 6:30 PM. Thanks to z-dude for hosting and everyone else for participating.

I'm glad everyone had a good time. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned for me and I didn't make it. I still have enough pancake mix, eggs and bacon to feed an army, and I did fix hubby and me a nice breakfast out in the backyard on my Camp Chef stove this morning.

Good to meet you Alan. Also first time i've met Hiking Jim and little Joyce in person. I'll bet Saturday night was lots of fun. Stan, thanks for putting this together. Loved meeting your family too.

Howdy All

Both InFerno and I drove through the campsite and couldn't find a trace of the hikin' fools. Turns out they were hanging out in Stan's RV for a few minutes to get warm. We knocked on the wrong RV door :oops:

Decided to head up to the trailhead. I've only been to Aspen Grove once and that was in 2004. When the dirt road started deteriorating, I left my car and hopped in Inferno's SUV -- we bounced our way up to the trailhead. Still no sign of the gang, so we started hiking. Z-dude, Alan K and Speedy Steve caught us about half-way up the trail. Thanks to InFerno for slowing down his pace to stay with me and to the rest of the gang for doing the same

Before the trail junction at Mineshaft saddle, we headed up the ridge to bag Lake peak.

On our return, we met Hikin' Jim carrying Hikin' Joyce. Her pictures don't do her justice -- she's even cuter in person

We regrouped at the trailhaed for various celebratory beverages, then drove back to the campsite for more beverages and hors devours. Everyone played on (err... tested) the hammock and tree swing. Sadly, I was unable to spend the night :cry:

Good to meet you, Florian.

I also (finally) got to meet Fern, the much storied Snow Creek legend. I also got to meet Patty (who doesn't post here but knows those who do) and to see not only Zip but Mrs. Zip and the Zipettes (his kids). The kids had a blast with little Joyce (the feeling was mutual judging by how much Joyce was laughing).

Always good to see Ellen, Steve, and Alan of course.

Great time in beautiful weather in a beautiful spot. My only disappointment was that I couldn't stay both Friday and Saturday night.

P.S. Did you know that a bottle opener and a corkscrew are the two most important attachments on a Swiss Army Knife? At least at a hikin' fools get together. :lol:

Seriously, I was mired in sand and Fern did a fabulous job making it right. Then, Steve parked my car for me at the campground after I hollered "Help, I need a man!" At least I provided comedy for the Hikin' Fools get together
