Soulcamp - give Iron Mtn in San Diego (Poway) a try. It's a good early morning hike, especially in the summer when it gets hot, as there is little shade. My wife and I tried it on a frosty morning last December just after all the heavy rains, and it was so clear we could see Catalina and San Clemente Islands. The earlier you get there the clearer the air will be. But be warned that the trail is crowded, particularly on the weekends. Plenty of trail runners, and people walking their dogs.

For some reason, the Iron Mtn trail reminded me of Halhiker's description of the "Bump-N-Grind" trail in Palm Springs (which I have never been to), as there were LOTS of middle-aged women hiking on it. Which isn't all bad, if you're a guy.

Take note that in Zip's article (above) most of the entries were made by women...
