Routes from Cabazon?

I can take a couple buses from San Diego to Cabazon or Banning.

What's the quickest way to get up the hill from there?

Also, where exactly does the northern end of the pct meet the valley floor?

If you know where the junction of the 10 Freeway and where it meets the 111 Highway that leads into Palm Springs, the PCT is off to your right in the middle of that flat desert floor area, it angles away from the village of Snow Creek from south east to North West and goes under the freeway just west of the last offramp before the 111 Highway, that offramp is called Verbenia Ave, on a Satelite map of that area look for a bend in the 10 Freeway just about 100 yards from "Mile Marker 110" to the west, it's right there that it goes under the freeway. If you can get a ride to Cabazon, you could walk down the railroad tracks on the south side of the 10 all the way there, don't know the exact distance.

Once at the PCT you can cut across the desert floor heading south to Snow Creek, it actually goes onto the blacktop for about a mile at the village as it winds it's way up towards the Desert Water Agency property, once you get to the drinking fountain you need to turn right (there's a sign). If anyone stops you, tell them you are going up the PCT as there's private property that they are real sensitive about. From there it's 25 miles to the summit - that is the most leaisurely way to get there - direct routes are another matter altogether and the private property makes it very difficult to describe here the way around.

The other choice would be to go in from the museum in downtown PS or go up the tram or go to Idyllwild and go in from there.

The PCT crosses Interstate 10 (well call that the valley floor for these purposes) at point "A" on this map. Cabazon is point "B." Whitewater is point "C". If you scroll to the left, Banning is point "D".

that offramp is called Verbenia Ave

For some reason, during this budget crisis time, the state decided to spend thousands of dollars renaming the street. It is now Haugen-Lehman or something close to that. Just in case you try to mapquest Verbenia.

And lilbitmo, I wish I could get dropped off at the museum straight out of a bus.. That would require some hitch hiking. But I'm glad I can already go as far as Cabazon!

Zip, thanks for the heads up my friend. With us being broke and all... It makes perfect sense to rename streets randomly.. Think of how much gas people are going to be buying when they can't find their way around anymore!

Just as a note, Haugen-Lehman was named after two Riverside County Sheriff Deputies that were ambused and killed a couple of years ago in that small neighborhood just north of the freeway.

Well, I guess that makes me feel better. Tough work, that, and good men doing it. Still, I don't know if the use was the best possible use of funds. They need to save a few $ just in case I die on a trail one day, so they can put up signs saying "Zippety Crest Trail". (Not to make light of the incident - I have good friends in law enforcement and I respect their work.)

Incidentally, Danny, I've been eyeing a direct route up from Cabazon, omitting Skyline and the PCT for a while now. If I have a chance to scout it out before your trip, I'll let you know.
