For anyone going up Skyline tomorrow, be sure to get an early start.
You want to be at least half way to the tram before the sun comes out.
The high in Palm Springs is expected to be 99 degrees tomorrow and 96 on Sunday -- http://mydesert.com (seven day forecast)

Howdy All

Can't believe how much snow has melted off the traverse -- it was really nice to be on the trail and follow the switchbacks up from Coffman's versus heading straight up through the dirt, trees and rocks. Experienced Skyliners will be able to find the route, first timers could find it challenging -- I had to pause a few times to get my bearings. I put microspikes on at Strap On point, didn't really need them.

Met Lcpl Hughes and Wild at the picnic tables (heard a "who goes there?") as I approached The greyhounds (Scott2, MyOtherBoots and Patti) caught me a Coffman's -- thanks to Robin's mom for the ride back to the museum and to the greyhounds for their always wonderful company.

I started at 4:30 AM to get a jump on the heat and recommend starting early tomorrow since it will be unseasonably warm again.

I missed you Ellen! I went up Skyline Saturday too. We started at 5am and I can say that we should have started earlier. It was way too hot on the trail! It was such a pleasure reaching the snow where we could cool off. The snow was patchy. I didn't use microspikes, just my poles. However, the snowy areas are still dangerous if one slips! I have a link to some pics showing the snow in the traverse as well as the beauty of that mountain!

Great slideshow Katherine. It lets one see how much snow is still left on the traverse. I was surprised that you didnt change the starting time because of the warm weather.
