General Palm Springs area.

Fuller ridge is one of the most beautiful spots on the mountain in my opinion.

.....and the mileage coming out of Caramba, is double the mileage going into Caramba.

Thank you very much! I also found some other mistakes in calculating the distance between the peak and Wellmans. In addition, in a few places I violated the rule in the note at the bottom about including the peak mileages in all subsequent cumulative totals (I have since moved the note to the top of the page).

I'm sorry to say this remains a work in progress. The corrections I made change some of the mileage totals, so folks should always make sure they are using the latest version available at: http://www.mitchbarrie.net/files/san_ja ... leages.pdf

Download that now and throw away the earlier versions.

I will add Laws and Caramba to subsequent versions.

Hi simonov,

Fantastic schedule - thank you!

I'm not familiar with the individual mileages so I'm not certain if the issue is with the legs or the cumulative amounts....however, please check the Wellmans Divide leg under the Humber Park section. It looks to me like the cumulative mileage should be 7.2mi (instead of 5.4) and this carries on to the San Jacinto Peak leg as well.

Thanks,
John

Thanks for checking.

Actually, the mileage is correct. The 2.9 miles of the Wellmans leg is added to the 2.5 miles to Saddle Junction, not to the side trip up to Tahquitz Peak. Note the asterisk next to Tahquitz Peak, which references the footnote:

The spur trails to Tamarack Valley, Taquitz Peak and Suicide Rock are not included in calculations of subsequent legs. The short trail to San Jacinto Peak is not considered a spur trail and its mileage is included in subsequent legs.

The logic being that side trips are not included with the longer trips except in the case of San Jacinto Peak, where it is assumed that any trip that passes through the high junction will also include a climb to the top and back (0.3 miles each way). Anyone going that high will want to take in the summit as well.

Suicide Rock and Tahquitz Peak are well out of the way, and Tamarack is only of interest to folks who are actually staying the night there.

If you are "Google Earth" savvy, the following link has some useful trails for San Bernardino national forest.

http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOC ... 213004.kmz

After loading the KMZ file into "Google Earth", you can checkout the elevation profile by "right-clicking" the trail of your interest and clicking the "Elevation Profile". This reports elevation gain/loss, distance.. etc..

Have fun.
