It appears that someone is getting rescued from just a little ways above the museum, heat seems to be a factor.

That didn't take long. It's been hot for about, what, an hour?

Don't mean to sound flippant, though, I hope they're okay.

I think the biggest issue is people not used to the heat dont realize they need to start gettin hydrated the day BEFOR hiking in heat. that includes NO alcohol the night b4 as well. and you need long sleeve lightweight columbia shirts and long dry-fit pants and hat to keep the sun off you. I only wear shorts n tanktops if its UNDER 90-95, if its over, you need protection/be covered up out in the desert especially on any hike over 2-3 hrs, . I always take frozen water bottles too, that way after 8 miles i still have real cold water to drink which is way better than warm water. and wen frozen you can hold em against your neck to cool down a lil, thats wat i do anyways :)

-ive also almost always lived in places where its normally well over 100 all summer..so that helps probably..

She fell and injured her head and had heat stroke
It seems like she had a very late start.

im bein serious, ive never had it but seen lotsa other peeps faint n get sick from it. is it from dehydration? or from core temp gettin to high?

Core temp too high.

In this case she may or may not have been making a Skyline attempt.

how come some peoples core temp gets to high, and some dont?? is fitness a factor? or is it just a matter of being used to the heat, or not used to it..?

Howdy Torrey,

You've hit on some key points regarding risk for heat stroke -- fitness (higher level of aerobic fitness = better heat tolerance), acclimation to heat (the temperature jumped suddenly, so no time to acclimate), body size (large muscular athletes are at greater risk), and more.

Here's a good article (albeit technical) on causes and prevention of heat stroke:
