UPCOMING HIKIN' FOOL GET TOGETHER AT ZIP'S HOUSE

Okay, you crazy hikin' fools. I had such a great time visiting with all of you the first time, I talked about this with Ivette, and we're all in.

Last time, everyone all went to the peak of San B, and it was perfect. About 14 mi round trip, then everyone stayed late and had beers, sang songs, and messed around in a wonderful, pointless way. In your posts, think about May/June, and be negative! That sounds mean, but what I want is for everyone to say, "I can come any weekend but the weekend of x/xx, any other time will be perfect, and I am willing to swear in blood that I will be there. That way, we can eliminate a date or two, then get everyone here to hike, laugh, drink, consume yummy food, and get to know each other without the intense suffering of a hike being involved.

Well, sorta. I'm hoping for some sort of hike. Since I'm over here in the San G zone, we could do a brief local (Yucaipa or San G) trip, or maybe start very early and do something horrible, like a 20-30 mile trip, ending with a party/overnighter at my house.

So, gimme some input this time. Dates you can't make it, distance of hike you'd like to do to begin the thing, and if you think just a few afternoon/evening hours would be ideal, or an overnighter so that no one needs to drive home due to a possible excess intake of exercise (!)

Talk to me people! I had such a great time the first time, I'm smackin my chops already.

Walt, fire upthat Q! Alan, bring that boy home! HJ, buy a party dress for that itsy bitsy thing that has you wrapped around her finger. Ellen, begin intense mapquest research that will improve your chances of actually arriving! Steve, you and Fern should be sure to get your weekly 1000 miles in early that week to make this possible. Kathryn, invite your new hikin fool group! Tina, no intercontinental adventures for a week or two.

And all the rest, from the san J and San G boards,throw in your two cents worth right away. Once the date is picked, it's all easy and fun from there.

Anyway, it's on, and it's in your court people. Post quickly. Danny, Don, hal, ohiker, rickK, michaels, ellen, tina, torrey, robin, Perry and wife, Ze, Patrick and camera, and everybody that I haven'tforgotten but haven't yet listed, get your posts in! Ready to rock? Then let's do this!

Eric's track season should be over at the end of May. His summer plans are too complicated and changeable to comment on, but we would make every effort to show up to a bash in June. We vote for a morning hike as part of the plan, for tradition's sake if nothing else.

I am free every single weekend in May and am definitely down for the cause, my brothas and sistas from otha muthas! I've only done Vivian Creek in SanG Wilderness so I'd be up for another kick-butt trail somewhere else up there.

Count me in Zip...yeehaw!. My weekend plans usually consist of hiking, hiking and more hiking with a little camping thrown in...destination unknown. Any weekend in May/June is good for me.

A hike of course would be great, always makes bbq and beer taste better... Will you sing "I Love this Bar (errrr, Board)"?

Hooding?

Hooding is the placing of a hood over the entire head of a prisoner. Some legal scholars consider the hooding of prisoners to be a violation of international law, specifically the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions, which demand that persons in the power of occupying forces be treated humanely. Hooding is potentially dangerous, especially when a prisoner's hands are also bound. It is considered to be an act of torture when its primary purpose is sensory deprivation during interrogation; it causes "disorientation, isolation, and dread." According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, hooding is used to prevent people from seeing and to disorient them, and also to prevent them from breathing freely. Hooding is sometimes used in conjunction with beatings to increase anxiety as to when and where the blows will fall. Hooding also allows the interrogators to remain anonymous and thus to act with impunity. Moreover, if a group of prisoners is hooded, the interrogator can play them off against each other by pretending, for instance, that some of them are cooperating, which the prisoners will be unable to verify.

In 1997, the United Nations Committee Against Torture had concluded that hooding constituted torture, a position it reiterated in 2004 after the committee's special rapporteur had "received information on certain methods that have been condoned and used to secure information from suspected terrorists."
