Took a hike down Palm Canyon from Hwy 74 on Saturday. Very pretty area. The only people I saw all day were 2 cyclists coming up from the Trading Post. Lots of water in the creeks.

I was surprised by all the evidence of grazing in this area. There are cow patties in the wash from where the trail drops into the canyon all the way to where I turned around at the intersection with the Live Oak trail. I didn't see any animals, but there are fresh cattle tracks in the mud since the recent rains. There were cow patties EVERYWHERE in the wash (including the creek itself).

Wondering if this was a one time incident or do they graze livestock in that area on a regular basis?

Not sure about that area. I do know that there is a herd of about 30 feral cattle in the Whitewater canyon western foothills.

The Wellman family, (yes, Wellman's Divide & other namesakes), have been grazing all over the east side of San Jac for decades.
If you ever get to see those cows, I call them hippie cows,, long hair, big horns, generally very mellow, ( they don't get high to my knowledge, but may graze on desert tobacco!).
Once in a while they go to far north & the family has to heard them up higher again.

Theyre Longhorns Brett....a good many of them. Bumped into them a couple times. Fun to see.

sorry to hear theyre inconsiderate enough to crap in the creek....good thing they don't climb snowcreek or their asses would be in trouble !
