My girlfriend and I are going to slog up the hill tomorrow. We're starting a little late (6 am), but are only going to the tram.

She is bringing her microspikes. Think she'll need them?

Hope you like postholing. You may not need microspikes but snowshoes would probably be welcome.

You may need more than micro's, including some ice experience, the traverse can have plenty of exposure, the winds have blown, there's now more than 1 layer, self-arrest experience & axe are all recommended this time of year, possibly 10 point cramp-ons as well.

If unsure of the conditions, it's always a good idea to ride the tram up the day before & hike down a bit to know what your getting into.

Be safe, and you can always turn around.

you prediction was closer, small snow-shoes would have been nice, but there was enough steepness to make them a bit dicey in areas, but at least it was good, tractable snow with good grip.

Now, since this new snow, there's no trail, and MUCH more snow to deal with, I advice Not going up for quite a while. It will wear someone out, (fit or otherwise) before they ever got to the traverse.
