Visit the snow and hike with kids

Anyone please, let me know if there is a way to get to San Jacinto mnt other than the tram. Planning to go with my kids 11 and 15 for a day of easy hike and to play in a snow for a few hrs. Would like to stay close to our vehicle just in case for a change of dry clothe and sandwiches.

Since conditions change constantly, I recommend you contact the USFS Ranger station in Idyllwild for the most current information. Here is the link to their web site:

Hi Daddy!

Hwy 243 & 74 off I 10 should be open, but check with San Bernardino NF to see if there's any snow you can drive to, i.e. Black Mt. area, or Humber park.
The snow begins approx 7k ft. on the east side, but not sure about that area.

Hi Driver71. We used to wait til a good cold storm came through, then take the motor home up to the the area just above Wrightwood. Got a heater, warm place to change, and hot chocolate to boot. If you don't go this time, you should have a couple really good chances in February. With kids, the tram gets expensive and that all important warm change is not really very practical. Hope you have tons of fun and make some great memories!
