PCT Section hike- Warner Springs to Hwy 74

Postby Ulysses » Sun Nov 14, 2010 10:00 am

I'm planning on hiking a northbound section of the PCT in the coming weeks from Warner Springs to Hwy 74 at Paradise Corner. Does anybody have any info on the current water situation along that section or know where I could obtain current status? In particular Lost Valley Spring, the water tank at mile 127, or the "Guzzler Cistern" at mile 139?

Thank you in advance for any help.

The water tank at Mike Herrera's house? Try emailing him. He's on PCT-L. For the guzzler and Lost Valley Spring I would try to locate Lawrence the Spring Guy. He lives near Warner Springs. You may want to drive east of Anza and cache some water at Hiker's Oasis.

I'm sure you already know about the PCT water report that Asabat maintains. A month ago Lawrence provided an update.

30 gallons at the guzzler a month ago. I'd bet there's still plenty of water.

There may also be water across the street at Hwy 74. On Monday evening there were two full gallons. On Wednesday night my memory is a little cloudy, but I believe the two original jugs had been tapped and a third had been added for a total of 1.5 gallons. The water situation there is very fluid, but you can easily cache water for yourself there too. I did, but I removed it because I wasn't going to be back for a long while.
