250 pound deer in the San Jacintos??? Maybe 100 years ago.\

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I saw at least a dozen 200+ lb deer this summer in Tahquitz Valley.

Maybe they have had a chance to fatten up a little more since then.

As someone who has recieved great advice from this forum, and a duel personallity type, I enjoy hiking and being alone in the outdoors, and I hunt. My family gets most of our meat from deer or elk we get the old fashion way. (mostly with bow and arrow but also some with riffle) I do understand the discomfort with seeing and hearing the hunting activities when your out on a hike. Hopefully most of the hunters are being ethical, and following the regulations. Most of us really love being outdoors and I spend several weeks each year hunting and being away from civilization. I read a good article in Backpacker this year some of you may be interested in, it looked a hunting from a hikers perspective http://www.backpacker.com/article/14747
