General Palm Springs area.

Scattered clouds Wednesday afternoon in Palm Springs. Very pretty day right now. Looking up at the mtn looks like the upper tram station is in clouds but nothing threatening. No snow visible.

Howdy Florian :)

Has it rained in the desert? I love the wonderful scents on Skyline after it rains.

Looking forward to Steve's report.

Ellen

We had some very heavy downpours off and on in PS on Tuesday. Bit of rain Wednesday morning. Gorgeous afternoon right now with scattered clouds.

Howdy St. Florian,

ARRGH -- times like this I wish I wasn't an hour away from the desert

It rained so hard at times yesterday you couldn't see the mountain from Las Cas, Ellen. And San J was still surrounded by low and wispy clouds as I drove back in town from LA earlier this evening. It was absolutely beautiful and caused me to think of the Western Isles of Scotland (minus the I 10 and outlet mall, naturally:)

2 snakes in the last 4 days..wow, and I thought they were down in their holes.

Skylines washed clean and free of footprints, snow or anything else that would keep someone away. Beautiful night on the trail, rained on us from 4600' to 7000' and then switched to ground fog with clear patches and moonlight, turned our headlamps off and enjoyed a surreal trip through the foggy, moonlit night. Couldn't have been a more beautiful trip.

Thanks for the clear trail report Steve.
The Sierra Club has 37 people signed up for this trip. :) I am glad that I am not leading it.

Howdy Speedy Steve :)

Thanks so much for the Skyline conditions report -- sounds like an incredible hike, wish I could have been there.

Howdy Cy :)

37 Sierra Club members -- yikes  So much for solitude on Skyline  I'll be going up Sunday as I'm speaking in San Diego on Saturday. I'm sorry that I'll miss seeing you  Have a wonderful hike -- I know the King has missed hiking Cyline.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Ellen - If you are going on Nov 6th we wont have to miss seeing each other again, and I can also see Tina Skylina. (a double bonus :) ) I will be starting a lot later.
The Coachella Valley hiking club is also going up then around 3.30 am.
I might be able to make it to the Tramway Road Challenge on Oct 30 if I can make travel arrangements

The weather in SD is still crap, it was raining again this morning. I just checked out the new weather cam at long valley and all looks fine on the mountain. Im definitely coming out tomorrow, I need to escape this northeast coast-like weather and see the sun!
