C2C2C-Saturday October 9th

General Palm Springs area.

Postby SDathlete » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:03 am

Hey all....well Saturday was a success! 8)

Started with my friend Mike at 2:30 am, it was actually a little chilly down at the museum. Reached 4300' and cached water. Sun came up at appx 5K', and it was very crisp but very comfortable for hiking. FINALLY caught up to Sally who was with a small group of 3 guys. Sally and I chatted for a while and we finally made it to LV by 8:30. Left LV and Ranger Station at 9am & reached the summit at 11:15am. Had lunch on a PERFECTLY clear windless day at the summit and headed back down at around 12:30pm. Back down to LV by 2:30 and fueled up. Popped 1200mg of ibuprofen for the downhill. Reached 4300' and cache at appx 5pm...was not hot at all the rest of the way down and didn't really need the extra water but we topped off anyway. Hiked the last 1:15 in the dark (really wanted to be done before this but that's what you get for being a chatty Kathy I guess). FINALLY reached the desert floor at appx 8pm.

Also, congrats to Sally for completing C2C...we ran into her just as she was summiting and we were headed back down to LV. And to Dan (if i remember correctly) for completing C2C, we were piggy-backing with his group almost the entire way up.

Perfect day and still a little sore but that's to be expected. I have pics to post but i don't know how to on this site....can anyone give me a tutorial?

Tentatively scheduling C2C on 10/23 too, full moon...starting at appx 4ish. The only logistical problem is I need a ride back to the museum from tram parking lot. Is there a service for this? anyone else possibly going or can give me a ride back to the museum that would be great  i could always run back

Howdy SDAthlete :)

Congratulations -- glad to hear that you're not suffering too much from the killer downhill 8)

I'll be doing Skyline at least on Sunday October 24. You should have no problems sharing a cab back to the museum.

Howdy Sally :)

3 1/2 hours is a huge chunk of time off your previous C2C, congratulations 8) I could tell by how I felt at Flat Rock that a C2C wasn't going to happen. Hope to get one in before the end of the month.

Can you come back out on Sunday the 24th?

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

To Ellen, Sally, & S.D., Nice work and congratulations!

And a special thank-you to S.D., knowing that the full C2C2C has been done will boost my confidence and provide inspiration for this coming Saturday (Oct. 16th). I have two very capable friends who will be joining the attempt.

c2c2c has been being done in the past. I know we've even done it in the snow, and I'm sure many people have done it through out the years. I can only imagine the tough spirits that have played on that hill in the past. probably in cowboy boots or Keds sneakers, wearing blue jeans or tennis skirts.

we just have it alot easier.

Thanks for the congrats Rick (my fellow Temeculan), Ellen, lesper4, and SD.

SD, if anyone deserves a congratulations, it's you. Way to go with that C2C2C!

Lesper4, I only took 5 pictures on the whole trip because I was so focused on hiking. Maybe you'll see me on the 24th.

Ellen, if Larry can handle another day of me taking off to hike again, maybe I'll go up on the 24th. Then I can buy you a REAL beer! Missed ya on Saturday.

Steve, those hikers in the olden days didn't even have Camelbaks. I can just see them in their Keds or cowboy boots with a few of those funky old canteens hanging around their necks! And maybe a stout wooden hiking staff instead of titanium trekking poles!

It was great finally doing a C2C after many years of doing only skyline.

Spent a long time with Sally, leapfrogged with SDAthlete, got to briefly meet Bluerail and fern going the opposite way.

Kept waiting for the fast ones to catch us or see on the way back down from the peak but figured they must have taken a short cut because we never saw them (Tina?)

Sally, you made it to the peak and stayed on the main trail, how did we miss you? We left the same time SDAthlete left the peak. There is a chance we were delirious :)
