San Jacinto Peak north face routes

Postby Wild » Tue Oct 05, 2010 11:23 am

Hello folks, how are you all doing?

I've been very intrigued with SJ's north face ever since I hiked fuller ridge... and well, I was just wondering if anybody on here had any experiences with climbing anywhere on the face, apart from snow creek?(I would really like to do this one this winter)

Is there an actual route on one of the amazing looking ridges on there? if not, if I was to find a doable route, could I post it for people to try out for themselves as well? Or is it illegal to cross country hike/climb on the north face? (I've read about the DWA a lot and know both of their locations, which I would avoid).

Just curious :) I appreciate any comments or feedback!

Take care!

There aren't any established routes other than Snow Creek that I've heard of although I'm not a climber so I may not be clued in. Anything you do will be hard and require at least some skill on rock. I've heard people talk about following the telephone wires that run west of the tram, but I think that would be pretty tough and possibly dangerous.

Good luck,

Hey Hikin_Jim,

Yeah I definitely figured there would be quite a bit of technical rock climbing on there, which I am (to some extent) comfortable with. Thanks for your feedback on the route you mentioned. I think I will stay away from that one however. As bluerail mentioned, I don't want to be anywhere near any trespassing zone, hehe. I don't want to steal your best friends away from you HJ! ;)

There was a post here a few days ago about somebody who scrambled up somewhere near the NF I believe. I can't find it anymore, for some reason, but I remember you posting in it HJ. You were talking about how the fellow who climbed is very skilled and experienced and that his routes should not be taking lightly. Rings a bell? Any info on that one?

I appreciate it guys!

Danny: I don't have too much luck with the search function either. Another way to do it is to find a post by Hikin Jim, click on the blue highlighted name, and choose the option "Find all posts by Hikin' Jim". It'll take you to a list of all his posts, working backwards from that day. That works for me more often than not, especially if the topic is only a few weeks old.

Yes, I do remember that post. That route was one of the variants of Snow Creek. Snow Creek branches, and one of the branches comes out right near the summit. I believe the post in question was referring to that branch.
