Terrawanderer,
A day-hike of Tyndall is great idea for a conditioning outing in preparation for the complete C2C-squared. I have been to Tyndall on an multiday trip several years ago. On that trip we also climbed Williamson. I would like to attempt Tyndall as a dayhike. Although the distance and altitude gain is similar, there are couple of big differences.
Tyndall is over 14,000 feet, so the summit is much higher than Jacinto.
I'm assuming that you're considering the North Rib route since it's the most direct. This route requires over 1,000 vertical feet of class three scrambling. C2C is virtually all trail up to the summit boulders.
And then if you're coming from So. Cal., its a four-hour drive to get the Symmes Creek trailhead, so a little more travel involved compared to San J.
