Time to ramp up conditioning hikes. Anyone here interested in a dayhike of Mt Tyndall on Sept 11 saturday ??? This is a hard hike and I would prefer to go with at least one other hiker. It is about 24 miles with around 9000 gain and loss.....sounds familiar ......maybe Steve and Fernando will be tempted.......and if they are I will end up being tortured by their ability !!!!

Terrawanderer,

A day-hike of Tyndall is great idea for a conditioning outing in preparation for the complete C2C-squared. I have been to Tyndall on an multiday trip several years ago. On that trip we also climbed Williamson. I would like to attempt Tyndall as a dayhike. Although the distance and altitude gain is similar, there are couple of big differences.

Tyndall is over 14,000 feet, so the summit is much higher than Jacinto.

I'm assuming that you're considering the North Rib route since it's the most direct. This route requires over 1,000 vertical feet of class three scrambling. C2C is virtually all trail up to the summit boulders.

And then if you're coming from So. Cal., its a four-hour drive to get the Symmes Creek trailhead, so a little more travel involved compared to San J.

C2c2c? thoughts - anyone interested

Postby Cy Kaicener » Sun Sep 05, 2010 2:46 pm

Only a month away now. It looks like October is going to be a very busy month for Skyline/C2C. There are two club scheduled hikes on Oct 2 and Oct 23. and our back to back challenge on Oct 9. No doubt that the 16th will be busy too.

Hi Cy,

Are the 10/2 and 10/23 hikes Sierra Club hikes? Do you happen to have links to them? I just like keeping track of who's on the trail.

I canceled my plans for a C2C2C hike on October 9th. I'd still like to do it this fall, but it might still be too hot for me in early October.

I prefer the later weeks in October as well.

I plan this year's version of up and over will be a C2C as well. I plan on Skyline to the Tram to the Peak.

Then Deer Springs Trail to Idyllwild and mountain bike down the old stage coach trail to the Hemet (bottom of the hill).

Let me know if anyone is interested in doing all or any portion there of.
