Human ashes on Mt. San Jacinto

Postby hiiker » Sat Aug 28, 2010 8:13 pm

While poking around for a Mt San Jacinto summit register yesterday (never found it) I came across a small wooden box that said it contained the remains of a hiker. I'd assume they are the ashes of someone? Does anyone know who the person might have been?

That's weird. Scattering ashes around, sure. But not just leaving the box. (I don't think there is a register on SJ.)

Hope they aren't the remains of a lost hiker. Strange too that the box was unmarked. If it really is someone's ashes that seems a little disrespectful.

Here's what I found while searching the internet about the person's ashes on the summit. The mtn climbers name was Steve, no last name was given. His ashes have been there since at least 2007.

Also found a few people on another board mentioning the summit register is down at the cabin.

This would explain a lot about certain Snow Creek ascents lately.

When I know I am dying, I am gonna somehow hike to the summit and die somewhere nearby tucked away in some rocks, hopefully I will decay quickly and the stench wont be too bad..I eat TONS of onions and garlic, so I cant promise anything..

on second thought...
I have decided that I am not gonna die
