Marion Mountain Trail

Postby Sally » Sun Aug 15, 2010 10:36 am

:D On Wednesday I thought I'd give my knees a lickin' on the Marion Mtn Trail. I started at 6:45am and enjoyed cool temperatures all the way to the top. There was plenty of water at Little Round Valley and along the trail below. I had my lunch at the peak and stayed up there for an hour hoping someone would come and join me for a little company. It wasn't until I started back down about noon that I ran into the first person I'd seen that day. On the way down I took a lot of pictures. About a mile before reaching the trailhead I ran into 4 backpackers on their way to Little Round Valley in the heat of the day. Glad I got an early start :!:

Great pictures Sally. I'm trying to talk my hiking partner from work into doing this trail to the summit some time later this month. I and my 12 y/o did the tram to summit a couple of weeks ago. He finished that hike without any issues. Do you think the Marion Mt. Trail would be too much of a challenge for a kid his age?

Hi Tyrus, thankyou! I think your 12 y/o would do just fine. Just get an early start so you don't have to pull up that hill in the heat.

I meant to say in my TR that I am always amazed at how the trip to the peak is always different, be it the constant change in wildflowers as the season progresses, or taking a different trail, or hiking in snow. My boss asked me the other day why I don't get bored hiking to the same place all the time!

Hi Sally,

Marion Mtn trail is fun. I did it Friday a week ago. Spent the night in Fern Basin campground the night before and got a similar 6:45am start as you did. Did SJ from the tramway today.

Hey Sally,. Nice pictures. It definitely is a fun trail and only slightly painful going downhill. Nice job
