Question about Jean Peak

General Palm Springs area.

The best way to do San J, Jean, and Marion in a day is from the Deer Springs trail / Marion Mountain trail. From the Jean/Marion saddle, instead of dropping down south east toward wellman's cienaga, go the exact opposite direction (northwest) toward the source of Deer Springs and down the drainage which becomes the north fork of the san jacinto river. This puts you right back on the trail, then you can descend to your trailhead, be that Marion Mtn or Deer Springs. There is no brush to speak of in this drainage, there is on either side, but the drainage proper is clear of the nasty stuff. Plus there is very good fresh spring water.

Hikin_Jim: I actually had your track from a previous post loaded on my GPS.
I remember when I came out of the trees and just stood there and looked at the dense bushes in front of me and said "shit". For some reason this particular day I was focusing on "animal tracks" and developing my sense of following them so I kinda got drawn south of your track towards the cienaga and really kept fighting to get back to your track since the "animal tracks" were not working so well. Anyway after hitting the trail and heading towards the divide I saw exactly where your track hit the trail at a natural drainage. I only saw maybe one or two things that I though might have cairns as I was coming down but was not really looking for them. Maybe I'll explore a bit more in the future when I get up the courage to face the bushes!!

I'm going to check out the Deer Springs drainage next since I've never been up/down it; sounds close to heaven!
