Summertime idiots are not limited to the Skyline Trail

Postby OtherHand » Wed Jul 21, 2010 7:52 pm

An article from the Eastern Sierra News. Midway through the article it describes a truly special sort of idiot who thought it would be a good idea to attempt a solo hike from Badwater to the Mahogany Flat campground in the middle of July. That would be about an 8,000' climb with no trail and a 16 mile straight line distance from Badwater. Oh, he did bring a whole gallon of water along. This makes the folks that do Skyline in the Summer seem downright sane.

Cell phone = Death

Not from cancer -- that's a bunch of crap. It's just that talking on them all the time rots a person's brain. Using an earbud only makes it worse. It's a sure sign of brain rot.

Texting is worse yet.

Man, technophobic rants are great therapy. :D

Isn't it ironic, though, to be posting one on the internet?

...no one died, but as Chief Ranger Pennington said, it was, “not for lack of trying.”

I find an odd comfort in Walts description of Zip; a tech-no-nothing... there is a certain peace there.

but Alan, I'd be lost without my cell phone..even for a day. Pathetic, I know.

Definitely. Also that I have a cell phone and an ear bud. But, then again, I am not complaining about myself. I can quit any time. Honest! It's all those other folks -- the ones walking (and driving) down the street, talking to themselves. They're the ones whose brains have rotted already.
