LA Times article on night hikes near LA

When I lived in Los Angeles in the 60's and 70's, the Sierra Club had these hikes twice a week and were crowded. They had fast, medium and slow groups to divide up the crowd. Thats where you found your car pool groups for the week end to tackle the Hundred Peaks, Desert Peaks and Sierra Peaks list - over 250 peaks on the HPS and SPS lists and over 100 peaks on the DPS list.
One of the peak baggers called Doug Mantle climbed all three lists seven times each as well as the highest peak on each continent and the highest peak in each of our states. After that he completed all 13,000 ft peaks and 14000 ers in the West.

If you like hiking at night, I suggest getting as far away from Los Angeles as you can. Why didn't they mention all the great night hikes in McCarthur, Echo, or Elysian Parks?
