I'm sick of this

Seems like a second hiker was rescued on Skyline today.

http://www.mydesert.com/article/2010070 ... king+trail

At least we haven't had anyone die this year (yet) but it's getting real tiresome reading about people getting rescued on a trail they have absolutely no business being on in the heat of the summer.

Personally, I'd like to make the Skyline a "no rescue" zone; if you hike it, you're on your own. Of course, I know that'll never fly. But I will encourage a no beta zone. If anyone wants advice on hiking the trail the answer should be, DON'T.

(end of rant).

From what I heard, the one person was with a group of 3 that left him behind...how can you leave someone behind on the world's hardest day hike on a triple digit day! Wonder how many do that hike in the summer.

Actually, folks, if you really want to kill yourselves, it's a lot easier to just take a bottle of sleeping pills. I mean think of how much trouble it is to plan, pack, drive to the trailhead, and then hike the route to kill yourself. Eliminate all that tedious work and commit suicide in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Think of how much nicer that will be for the SAR teams who have to go out, search for your body, and then carry you out. That's so inconsiderate particularly when you can still achieve your goal of death on your own.

Sleeping pills not Skyline!

What exactly is a regular guy these days? And are you allowed to use laxatives to achieve that state?

Halhiker- You have no idea how many times the members of RMRU say that we wish we could leave those unprepared people on Skyline. However, we know we can't, so off we go. The frequency is definitely getting worse. Please tell people that are not going with someone in charge that has done it several times already- DON'T DO IT.
