Chest Pain

Postby ednjenn » Sun Jun 27, 2010 7:23 pm

On my first trip up and climb of summit, I had the priveledge of helping that fellow out (for a mere 3 hours up there at twilight...) Those SAR guys are good at what they do. They were very unprepared. Oh, who can I get the video I took of the helicopter extraction to? I am told "Lee" is who coptered in to hook the fella out. I have a passable I-Phone video to send of their rescue from about 10 feet away.

Doreen e mailed me that a reliable source told her that three people started Skyline at 7.30 am
Why would anyone start that late when there is a full moon out to take advantage of ?

Steve - I have gotten so used to getting up early for Skyline that I have never gotten out of the habit. I miss hiking with all of you Skyline regulars. I will be back in October. :) What routes have you been up lately?

When you are retired there is no such thing as early or late :)

hi ed.

you can email the video to info@rmru.org. i'm sure they'll be very excited to receive it.

did you mean to say they were very unprepared? if yes, you may want to offer constructive criticism privately in your email.

p.s. thanks for helping out a fellow hiker. as a hunter once told me on a search: "we have to look out for each other." the lag time between when an emergency arises and when SAR help arrives on scene can be hours, especially in the back country. and note to all hikers, helicopter support is not always readily available.

That sounded bad. Of course by unprepared I was referring to the victim. The SAR folks were aces. I am a 13 year cop with nothing but respect. I've worked with my department's helicopter unit on our rescues, so the criticisms were for the chest pain folks. No light, no warm clothing, outside ability level etc and not knowing their loc. I had gps lat Lon to provide, a working cell, full first Aid, epirb, lamps etc. It was nice to help and my admiration is for the SAR team. I'm sure they can put the video to guns n roses or another fitting soundtrack! I enjoy this forum also. C ya out there.

Oops, my bad  I'm glad to hear you weren't saying Lee was unprepared; which would have been surprising. He's a great guy with tons of experience and training. You can't imagine the number of nights/days he's dropped everything to assist total strangers, not expecting anything in return (like all SAR personnel do).
