Mt. San Bernardino hike

Postby Florian » Sat Jun 19, 2010 10:23 am

Hiked up the San Bernardino peak trail from Angelus Oaks yesterday. Really a nice trail and one i haven't been on for years. Conditions were perfect except for a thick smog layer to the west somewhat ruining the views. (On my way down i could smell the smog. Yucky.) The marker at the trailhead says it's 7 miles to the Initial Point monument. I'm convinced it's more like 8.5 or 9 miles. Still some snowy patches near the top but nothing difficult.

Some photos and a short movie here ► http://www.flickr.com/photos/fboyd/sets ... 92/detail/

Pi, thanks for the shuttle offer. Through hikes are fun.

Here is some info on the Initial Point marker ► http://www.mdshs.org/duffy.html

Hey Florian, on a lark I went up the same trail at about 5:30 on Friday...were we up there at the same time? I just ran up to the wilderness boundary and back - it was a beautiful day, huh?

Incidentally, thanks for posting the pics. I've been up the trail many times, but I seldom bring a camera, so now I can show my family what it looks like. Besides, you post pics that are far better than the ones I take!

I was gone before you started. I finished my hike about 3:30pm.

We're heading up to Angeles Oaks on July 24, it's good to hear the snow is melting away. We're planning to camp at limber Pine Bench, then see how many peaks we can get in. I'm not sure we can get to Shields peak and back, but it's worth a try. I know what you mean about those "posted" mileage signs!!!

Great pics Florian. I'm going up Thursday the same way and hope to get to Anderson Pk/SB Mtn Pk. I'll try to check the mileage to the Initial Point monument with Mr Garmin, and see what it is.

The hike through is a great idea!
Enjoy Life!
