Sid Davis Trail

Postby hikin1 » Wed Jun 16, 2010 7:17 am

I've been a long time "looker" of this board and enjoying it tremendously. We are starting up our shakeup hikes once again for the Sierras and thought we would go easy shaking out some combwebs. We are going up the Tram Friday morning into Round Valley and then hitting as many peaks as our older bodies can handle. I read the description from Hikin Jim concerning the Sid Davis trail, any advantage of taking that route versus the usual trail into RV?

Once the snow melts, it's better to take the established trail into Round Valley.

The Sid Davis Trail is shorter and away from crowds. Personally, I NEVER take the main trail to Round Valley. I either take the High Trail or Sid Davis.

I'm just trying keep the bulk of the traffic on the main trail and out of the nice peaceful areas. I'd hate to see the other routes get to be clogged with hikers like the main trail is in the summer.

Hi Kathy,
I second your comment, last couple years I've found dozens of cairns, use trails & impact through that area.
I don't want to be a NIMBY-type, since I do my share of cross-country, but I'm almost always alone, tread lightly & know where I'm going.

Besides, by staying on the main trail, you get the great views from Wellman's Divide, (plus, a short 20 min, segway SW from there is a wonderful spring & grass area, WC), a more gradual route, and much less chance of getting confused.
