When RMRU rescued the two hikers last December, stuck in the snow at the start of the traverse, at least one of them mentioned they read about the trail and directions in a Lonely Planet guide of some sort.

Yet another Skyline rescue 6/10/10

Postby Cy Kaicener » Mon Jun 14, 2010 6:36 pm

Thanks for all these rescues Search and Rescue are doing Pete and crew.
So many owe so much to so few. I wonder if it is possible to build a stocked shelter somewhere near Flat Rock. (5900 ft) or lower down the mountain.
Here are the links that describe your heroic efforts

some day I'm gonna get myself stranded just to watch you guys work.

(just kidding)

I'm sure I am just one of many, many people that find great comfort in knowing that you guys are there for us. There is not one single trip in the wilderness I have gone on, where you guys have not crossed my mind.

A very sincere thank you, to all of you that come save our butts, when we are beyond self rescue.

...and Florian, when I hit that bucket and drink your ensure tomorrow afternoon, that thing better not make me puke at flatrock.

When you fall off of a horse, you need to get right back on. Or maybe you just know that RMRU will not serve you with papers. :D

It's in "San Bernardino Mountain Trails: 100 Hikes in Southern California" Season: October - November.

Cy and his website are mentioned in the trail description.

The Skyline Trail is also featured in "afoot & afield: Inland Empire" (Dave & Jennifer Money Harris) - complete with a picture of the warning sign.

It must be new edition of SBMT. In the copy I have it's only mentioned as the "Chino Trail". If indeed the Skyline is the trail he means.

I do believe Jerry Schad mentions it in one of his books, 101 Hikes in Southern California.

And taking Ferranti up the Skyline back in the day is a trip I'll always regret. I liked it better when it was a secret.

6th Edition 2006, 2nd Printing.

In the index under "Chino Trail" it says "see Skyline Trail"
