New Member Intro, SJC on 6/12, and I'm a little annoyed

Hi everybody,

My name's Dave, I wanted to introduce myself and thank all the frequent posting people on here for all their reports - it makes hiking the area much more fun when you know what to expect.

ABout me: Long time hiker, outdoors guy. I've hiked a bunch of 11 to 14teeners in Norcal, NV and Co but not much experience in the SJC area. Live in San Diego now and it's awesome to have some good hiking under 2 hours away.

Hiked to the summit from Idlwyld (SP?) for the first time today as a fun training run for shasta in a few weeks. Conditions along the trail were awesome. Only a few tiny patches of snow along the entire trail, and the only solid snow was between the summit hut and summit, so leave the crampons and ice axes at home.

Partway over, we ran into a pleasant couple out for a hike - it turned out to be Bluerail from this board. Very nice to meet you!

Hit the summit a little before noon, ate lunch and headed down, and this is where I got a little peeved. MAybe 1/2 mile below the summit, there was a little clog of people heading up and up from the back comes this guy with a little blonde hitler mustache on a mission to get past everybody. He was obviously trying for some PR for the peak, which is fine, except he was in such a hurry than rather than step around my girlfrined like he did me, he decided to THROW AN ELBOW INTO A 100 POUND FIVE FOOT ONE INCH GIRL ON THE EDGE OF A CLIFF AND PUSH HER ASIDE IN ORDER TO GET BY. She could have very easily taken a really bad, bone breaking, skull smashing fall, all because this A** was in a hurry to summit.

I didn't realise what had happened but a couple other dudes saw it and shouted something. I asked my girl what had happened and she told me that D-BAG had thrown an elbow into her. I shouted after the guy but he was already around the next swichback at that point.

From the look of him, I'd say he does that mountain a lot, I really hope he sees this or someone who knows him sees this and passes along the following:

NO HIKE IS WORTH INJURING OTHERS YOU TOTAL A**HAT

Howdy Apnea Dave :)

Welcome to the board 8) I am really sorry this happened

The trail from Wellman's up to the summit is always busy - I call it rush-hour hiking -- but that doesn't excuse rude behavior. I was on the trail with friends yesterday as well -- as we descended we commented on the trail congestion.

It was a beautiful day yesterday and I feel badly that this event marred your San Jacinto experience.

I recommend going up to the summit via Little Round Valley {thanks St. Florian!} from the Marion Mt. trail or Fuller Ridge. There are fewer people on these trails.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Ellen, i think you meant Little Round Valley. Hope you don't mind my jumping in to correct.

And Apnea, what happened to your girlfriend really does suck. No excuse for that. Sometimes it's good to just be ready to jump out of the way of a jerk.

Thanks for the welcomes and reccos!

We'll definitly try some of the other trails. My girl has actually done most of them previously so she can be my tour guide. We're alreeady planning on doing a couple nights of camping somewhere on the forest service side in early july. The rest of this month we're hitting shasta, the trinity alps, and the lost coast, so it's gonna be a great start to the summer.

As for the jerk, in retrospect I'm suprised my girl didn't whack him over the head with a trecking pole when he shoved her, as that is typically her response when I get out of line. She may be tiny, but she's tough.
yep.
