Mount McKinley (Denali) ascent

David Whiting, a columnist for the OC Register, wrote an article today about two locals who left for Alaska yesterday to climb Denali. Here is his text and the climbers' website:

WHAT: Follow Chapman president Jim Doti as he attempts to climb North America's highest peak, Mount McKinley (Denali). A veteran climber and fitness buff, Doti's already knocked off several of the world's highest peaks including Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Mount Vinson in Antarctica and Aconcagua in South America.

WHY: Because Doti's climbing with his son, Adam, and Adam has created an amazing website which they plan to update with live reports.

WHEN: Doti left for Alaska on Monday, so today through the next several weeks.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: With crevasses, icy slopes and treacherous drop-offs, anything can happen at any time. But after the so-called "football field" at 14,000 feet, the going gets especially, gulp, interesting.

WATCH FOR: Doti making it up the steep headwall to 16,000 feet and, on summit day, across a slippery slope called the Autobahn that has claimed several climbers' lives.
