They did not empty the water caches that I saw, and there was only one hiker rescued today.

thanks Hal, I know exactly what you mean. and it absolutely is the time to turn off Skyline.

I hope we see no one get in trouble, or worse, this year. It does get so brutally hot up there, even the animals leave.

Ava, the woman I know was pulled off at flatrock, was at about 5000 when I ran across her, and she thought she was on the wrong trail, seemed disoriented and confused. why in the world would anyone agree to have someone join a group up that hill in this heat, that surely, obviously, wasn't prepared for what they were going to be in for ?

Or was it all just misjudging the weather ?.... the forecast wasn't good.

How about the number of people that did summit? It was like the end of a race. There was at least 20 people that had summited and hanging out by 10am and more were still on the way.

Actually I really thought I would be one of only a few on the trail. At 3am it was 80 degrees and there were 2 groups of 8 getting started and another group on the hill already. By 8am it was hot!

Fern and Steve, you guys are amazing (and so was that video). Cearsor, thanks for the ride back to the Museum. Hope your knee is better.

She ran out of water at 5000 feet and was picked up by helicopter at 10.15 am
Flat Rock is at about 5900 feet.

I am glad that the woman who was going to hike with her children changed her mind. I think the main reason was because of the advice given by the posters, here earlier in the week.

I was in Idyllwild (the cool side of the mountain) before 8am for the annual event and it very warm then.

I was thinking about the hikers on Skyline while the temps were roasting in the valley below on Saturday.

Short spring season this year.
