First San Jacinto Overnighter...

Postby Chew00 » Thu May 27, 2010 12:54 pm

Me and a couple of buddies are going to be overnighting in the Skunk Cabbage/ North Rim zone right south of the state park cut off this upcoming saturday, and for the life of me I cant seem to find any good info on bear conditions in the area...should we bring bear canisters? Or should we be okay? What what little information i have been able to find it seems they seem to mainly bother only the main campgrounds, but hearing from some folks who have been in the area would certainly be helpful. any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hi Chew00,
Don't worry about bears up here - there are none. However, there are some other rascals that would love to run off with your food - squirrels, chipmunks, and raccoons to name a few. A bear cannister is a good alternative to having the little guys chew through you backpack or tent, if you don't mind carrying the extra weight.
