Wish i was doing Skyline again tomorrow but just can't fit it in. Should be nice and "cool" on the trail. Hope everyone has a great time and looking forward to reading some trip reports.

I'm really looking forward to next weekend's moonlight hike!

Tomorrow is a no go for me. Kid issues. One of them is going to Griffith Park Observatory and I have take him to meet the people he's going with. Too bad, weather would have been perfect.

Wish I could of been there today..the weather looks like too much fun!

Today: Sunny, with a high near 45. Windy, with a west northwest wind between 35 and 45 mph, with gusts as high as 65 mph.

I started shortly after 4am. But my knee was troubling me again so I decided to abort after the picnic tables and before I got any higher. On my walk of shame back down about twenty people passed me heading up, none from Vegas. With those I know were ahead of me, plus other lights I could see, plus the Vegas group, I bet there are more than 50 people on Skyline today. It looks awesome up there right now...

Howdy Mark :)

I am so sorry about your knee -- we (Karin, Kathryn, Kevin and I) missed you

Weather was perfect. Trail on the traverse is pretty much free of snow. Beautiful day, lots of new people as well as familiar, friendly faces.

Due to the cool weather tomorrow, I may go up again but will leave later (say 5 AM). Got up at 1 AM for the 3 AM start (actually was 3:30) -- didn't really start to feel good until Shade Rock.

Now, for that nap...

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Brief TR:

This was my first Skyline of the year, and while I "remembered" the fact that the trail is hard, my "sense" of it had evaporated in the off-season. (I hear something similar happens to women after childbirth.)

Ummm...I completely remember now, since the trail assisted my memory (read: kicked my butt). I was clever enough to lift weights on Thursday (squats, no less) so I was good and sore before I started. I do not recommend this. Skyline is not the best way to loosen up sore muscles They do not loosen up along the way. They catch fire.

Anyway, it was an absolutely beautiful day out on the trail, a little warm starting at 7:00, but still very nice. I hope this weather will last a little while! Lots of friendly folks on the trail, and everyone I saw looked to be having a good time,

Ellen: I wish you 4 had started a little later! I topped out about 10:45 after a late start, but didn't have time to go by the bar. Rats. Glad you had fun, wish I would have seen all you crazy hikin' fools today! See you next weekend.

Eric and I hiked the Skyline trail today with Jay and Jim from southern Orange County. Jay and I had corresponded occasionally for several years via the San Jacinto message board and decided to get together for an interesting hike.

This proved to be a great SKyline day -- clear skies and temperatures from 57 - 73. There was a fair amount of wind when we arrived at Long Valley, but that sure beat the heat - literally. We originally intended to go to the peak. However, we lost one member to cramps when we hit Long Valley. By the time three of us reached Round Valley, the abundant snow had slowed things enough that we decided we were satisfied.

We met some familiar (at least from the message boards) people on the way, including GoPlayer and Phil form Glendora. We also met Ellen, Karin, Kathryn, and friends at Flatrock.

This was definitely a very enjoyable hike and a great day overall.
