I'll be starting much earlier. However, based on your speed and the cold beer at the tram bar calling my name, there's a good chance we'll finally meet.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

The heat's no supposed to be bad this weekend. High on Saturday in the 80s. Plus, it's supposed to be windy. I'm more worried about freezing than overheating.

Hal, making a solid effort to avoid somebody on the trail, however, it's not you...Fern and I are starting early and doing a c2c2c, looks like I may miss you also though. we have to get together and talk about Gordon. I also have a few other questions about other areas.
did skyline a few times last week starting at 6 and later, seem to remember you liking the heat, for me, the weather couldn't have been nicer.
Really happy to here your going up...just sorry I'll miss you, there are some other friends I'm gonna miss too (yea Brad..thats right) Have a good trip.

Charleston?) scheduled for the 29th. Hopefully we'll bump into each other some other time. Have fun this Saturday!

Skyline Saturday

Postby Cy Kaicener » Fri May 21, 2010 2:06 pm

My car pool group has reluctantly decided to postpone tomorrows hike for one week to 5/29 (12.05 am - 12.30 am) because of expected high winds. I spoke to Doreen who lives near the trail head and she said that it is windy now and expected to get worse tonite and over the week end. :(
We are probably going to regret this when we hear all the great trip reports. I would have preferred to go up as far as I could make it.

How much wind can the tram actually handle, i.e., at which wind speed will they stop running?

My preference is for it to be windy while on Skyline in May, stops me overheating as much. No worries with the Tram, Palm Springs is kinda used to wind...

It is blowing quite hard right now, but nothing out of the ordinary for this area. Sorry you're not going to make it Cy.

I think it's something like 50 MPH. And Chino Canyon shelters the tram from wind coming through the pass. I don't think you should have to cancel your your hike. But there's always next week. ;-)
