Terry,
The Museum tr. is loaded with short-cuts & switchbacks, with head-lamps it's not easy, (of course, up is always good), although there is a slight downhill on the south slope that heads down slightly about 10-15 mins in.
Starting from Ramon Rd. is easier to follow in the dark, about 1/2 mile (15+ mins.) longer.
From Museum, you'll hit picnic benches 1k vertical ft., veer slightly left (SW), trail goes slightly up, then a little down, then to tr. jct. (where the Ramon tr, actually called N Lykken) comes in on the left. Head slightly north, look for white lettering on boulders, here head SW & your on your way.
There are more short-cuts along the trail, most are either silly 10 ft. swithback cutters, or steep ones which bump your heart-rate up but save little time.
I'll be heading up just before sunrise, maybe see you along the way.
