Howdy All

I've held back, waiting for my pain sister and guardian angel Tina to post about her weekend. She hasn't yet (she's modest), so here goes:

While I was stuck in a Chicago hotel for a meeting on Saturday, our Tina was summiting Mt. Hood

I did that climb in my prime many moons ago...in the summer (it's cooler there). I can't imagine doing it this time of year with all the snow and ice that must still be in abundance. I can't wait to read her report. Congrats, Tina. And thanks, Ellen, for forcing her to have to tell us about it now!

thanks pain sista, i haven't had a chance to do a tr yet. i was just thrilled we were able to summit and do it a harder route. went up leuthold couloir, it was like snow creek but shorter. although we did have a lot of ice coming down on us in that chute. we looped up there and came down the south side through devils kitchen (awful smell of sulfur). the whole trip took less than 7 hours which was a bit surprising. next year i will either have to do yocum ridge and/or go up and around to black spider. north side is much more fun.
will post pics as soon as i get them from my friend. can't say enough about timberline guides. hoping next year i can get them to take me up jefferson as well.
Congrats to Kathy as well, can't believe we missed each other by a day.

Congrats Tina!

Now that I've taken the snowcat ride, I don't ever want to have to slog up through the ski area like I had originally planned to do. On Sunday, it only took us 3.5 hours (including breaks) to get to the summit with the snowcat ride to 8300'. I guess it would have been about 6 hours to get to the summit if we started at Timberline Lodge, so either way it's a fairly short day unless the weather turns bad (which is often in the Cascades).

Hood is a really pretty mountain. I'd do this climb often in the spring if I lived in the Portland area.
