The Gordon?

Postby WOLFDOG » Wed May 12, 2010 9:05 pm

Yeah, if they did do the Gordon, it's almost useless to follow, atleast around the 2,500 to 3,000 ft. level (when I hiked there in Dec. 2008) because of thick dense chapparel taking over the trail's drainage. Most useful however, is the numerous rock cairns marked along the trail, which identifies the trails location, not sure if the cairns are found higher up; I'm sure Walt and Hal would know.

If they were at Caramba then obviously the guy was not trying to hike from the Valley Station at the Tram to the mountain station. That's MILES away.

He could have been on the Gordon Trail but that's highly unlikely or he could have come up Tahquitz. Odds are he came up the Tram and tried to hike to Idyllwild or maybe came from Idyllwild and tried making it to the Tram. What the lady was doing is beyond me. She was probably just lost.

It's wild that they found one another and probably a good thing, too.

Glad they're OK.

Somebody take away his hiking boots. Serious hiker fail.

There should be a "you only get rescued once" rule. It would have to fall somewhere under survival of the fittest or maybe in this case smartest.

That story is still totally wrong. How does one hike from Valley Sta. to Mtn. Sta. and wind up and Caramba (which is on Tahquitz Creek not Willow). That story tells us almost nothing. :(

“He has another lost female hiker with him that we know nothing about, and the subject is known to not stay put
Yep, RMRU knows this guy. I guess nearly dying on Skyline the first time wasn't enough of a wake up call? I mean he fell down an ice chute and just barely managed to grab some brush and then he goes out into the same wilderness clueless again? And gets lost in the snow again? Maybe I'm rushing to judgement, but the guy sounds like a complete idiot.
